Mogens

In our examination of the state of the art of several alternative energy systems, it became apparent that some of the magneto-electrical mechanical systems did not conform to the long and well established paradigm or motor/generator. Normally a motor and a generator are considered two different devices. Closely related, they are conventionally seen as the inverse operation of fundamentally the same device:

In a motor, a supplied electrical current is used to generate mechanical motion.
In a generator, supplied mechanical motion is used togenerate an electrical current.

In practice, the same device is not used for either purpose. Motors and generators have been refined along different evolutionary paths to select for and improve characteristics suitable to the two distinct uses.

A Mogen is a hybrid device encompasses both modes of operation (motor and generator) within a single device optimized to act as both a motor and a generator. More specifically, to differerentiate a mogen from an ordinary motor-generator-like device, a mogen is:

capable of switching between the two modes while operating,
and in some variants,
capable of operating in both modes simultaneously.
